Serve The Needy-Uganda (STNU) is a Non-Governmental/non profit making organization formed in 2006 and duly registered under the Non-government registration statute of 1989, with the Ministry of Internal Affairs NGO’s board under the department of community welfare services with Reg. No S.5914/6136.The organization was first permitted to operate in only Kampala District and has extended its services in the Eastern Part of Uganda-Kumi District and is also registered with the Kumi District local government on Registration No.009/008
This was an idea initiated by a group of Youth who have been raised from humble back grounds with long experience in working with the grassroots poor spear headed by Saad Yiga who through tireless efforts and over a period of years had enduringly introduced the idea to as many people as he could. However, several people expressed interest to take part in this organization, most of them ended up pulling out for lack of resources to be injected into this promising initiative. Thereafter it was registered in 2006 as Non-Governmental organization with the Ministry of Internal Affairs NGO’s board under the department of community welfare services with Registration number. No S.5914/61
The founders work for development, assisting individual families regardless of their age, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religious belief or political affiliations aiming at raising the standard of living of the community as a whole but giving to HIV/AIDS infected and affected persons, orphans and vulnerable children, youth out of school, the disabled, who are unable to meet basic needs in life.
We work for welfare of HIV/AIDS infected and affected persons, orphans and vulnerable children, youth, social, economic and advancements. In so doing, we expect the target groups in our country to contribute to the overall development of the country and hence increased standard of living and that of their families.
STNU also encourage youth and women to participate in public affairs and decision making at all levels in matters affecting their social economic development.
The organization works with and for all vulnerable groups in Uganda. In HIV/AID’s testing, counseling, guidance ,sensitization and medicare, educating orphans and vulnerable children and training entrepreneurship skills to the unemployed youth and low income business earners, training reproductive health, sex education, family planning, hygiene, sanitation, nutrition in a bid to impart skills to the target groups.
Mission: To provide HIV/AIDS Testing, Counseling, Sensitization and Medicare Programs plus promoting Child Health Programs in the fields of Good Hygiene, Sanitation, Safe Water and Nutrition, in addition to School Fees Facilitation and Scholastic Material Assistance to the Orphans and Vulnerable Children and promote all income generating activities and peer group counseling to the young & youth in our committees.
Vision: To have an empowered HIV/AIDS sensitized community with orphans and vulnerable children having potential rights.
Objectives:
- To provide HIV/AIDS, counseling & sensitization to the affected and infected groups.
- To assist to the orphans and disadvantaged/ vulnerable groups.
- To promote hygiene, sanitation and nutrition.
- To promote income generating activities of youth/women.
